Hot Dog Relish

Hot Dog Relish

  • 4 quarts green tomato
  • 1 medium cabbage
  • 4 green peppers
  • 10 medium onions
  • 2 red peppers
  • ¾ cup salt
  • 6 cups vinegar
  • 2 lbs brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp tumeric
  • ¼ oz celery seed
  • 4 tbsp mustard seed
  1. Chop vegetables and mix with salt.

  2. Let stand for one hour then drain thoroughly and put in a pot with remaining ingredients.

  3. Boil for 1 hour, put in hot jars.

Important Note:

The original recipe did not give canning instructions- just to put in hot jars and seal. Due to changes in food safety, I would suggest putting in jars, putting lids on, and freezing. (In short I don’t know which would be safer, hot water sealing or pressure sealing)
