Old Fashioned Gingerbread
Servings 8 perople
Ingredients
Gingerbread
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 egg
- 1 cup molasses
- 2 1/2 cups flour sifted
- 1 1/2 tsp soda
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup hot water
Caramel Sauce
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 2 cups dark brown sugar
- 8 ounces butter
- 1/2 cup bourbon
- 1 cup cream
Instructions
Gingerbread
- Preheat oven to 325º, Not necessary to grease and flour pan.
- Cream shortening and sugar
- Add egg, molasses and beat well.
- Add sifted dry ingredients and then hot water.
- Beat until smooth.
- Pour into baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Serve warm with whipped cream or Caramel Sauce
Caramel Sauce
- Boil together corn syrup, sugar and butter until mixture is the consistency of thick cream.
- Remove from heat and cool.
- Add the cream and bourbon.
