Pogacsa- Hungarian Butter Cookies

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour sifted
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp whiskey
  • 2 tbsp sour cream

Topping

  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup nuts chopped fine

Instructions

Dough

  • Combine dry ingredients
  • Cut in butter with pastry blender.
  • Beat egg yolks with fork, blend in whiskey and sour cream.
  • Stir into dough, blend well.
  • Shape into ball; wrap in wax paper; chill 2 hours
  • Cut off slices from ball; roll on lightly floured surface generous 1/4" thick.
  • Cut with 1 1/2" cookie cutter.
  • Dip top in beaten until frothy egg whites/
  • Place on un-greased cookie sheets.
  • Sprinkle with mixture of sugar and nuts.
  • Bake in upper third of over at 376 degree F oven about 18 minutes.
  • Loosen cookies immediately with spatula.

Mrs. Tornesella’s Cookies

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 Cups Flour
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Pound Butter
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 Egg yolks
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla
  • Chocolate chips or walnut halves

Instructions

  • Soften butter, add sugar, slightly beaten eggs, vanilla and then flour. 
  • Mix well.
  • Use cookie press or roll into 1” balls on a cookie sheet
  • Place a chocolate chip or a walnut half in center.
  • Bake in a 250 degree oven for 10-12 minutes.

Mrs. Tornesella
REMINISCING: Mrs. Assunta (Michelle) Tornesella, 77. 78 Thorncliff Road, and a brother she had not seen for 52 years. Alfonse Michele, of Rome, Italy, had a wonderful time yesterday looking at old time family photographs and reminiscing. Mrs. Tornesella “treated” her brother to the trip to the United States. In a few weeks, they are going to board a plane for the West coast to visit Mrs. Tornesella’s son, Theodore, in San Diego, Calif., and a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Altmann in Phoenix, Ariz. En route home, they will visit an-other daughter. Mrs. Philip Spina of Massilon, 0. Mr. Michele will be entertained in the meantime by his sister’s other daughters. Mrs. Arthur Montenari, 307 Lowell Road:. Mrs. Carl Blum, 44 Old Colony Road: Mrs. Charles Battaglia, 312 Puritan Road, and the Misses Rose and Louise Tornesella who reside with their mother.

Butter Cookie (Iroquois Gas Corporation)

Butter Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon flavoring

Instructions

  • Cream butter, add sugar, beat eggs until foamy and add with flavoring to mixture.
  • Beat in sifted flour and mix well.
  • Chill very thoroughly and put through a cookie press
  • Bake 12-15 minutes at 375 degrees F.
